Projects
Research projects registered at UEMG and extension work coordinated by the group, with the year each one ran. The source is institutional paperwork: MAP registration, declarations from the Extension Office, and published call results.
Training people is part of the project, not a by-product: every front below carries the number of students who went through it. That is two completed undergraduate research fellowships and two under way, the latter funded by FAPEMIG.

- Extension Botanical collection of forages A forage herbarium built from the Agrostological Field: each species becomes an identified pressed specimen, with a label and its collection data. The point is simple — the field cannot travel, the specimen can. It goes to the farmer who has the pasture but cannot name the grass growing in it, and who therefore sometimes pulls out the legume that was fixing nitrogen for free.

- Research Antimicrobial and cellulolytic activity of terpenes, saponins and flavonoids from tropical forages Seven tropical forage species hold compounds that might help control bacteria and improve fibre digestion in the rumen — the group is testing that hypothesis with UFSJ, using GC-MS analysis.
- Research Effect of plant growth-promoting bacteria on the anatomical, morphogenic and structural traits of Urochloa Dunamis Soil bacteria can change how grass grows from the inside out. Nine undergraduate students are tracking how growth-promoting bacteria affect the anatomy and structure of Urochloa Dunamis grass.
- Research Validating a standardised mobile-photography method for visual pasture assessment, applying vegetation indices from the literature Can a phone in your pocket replace expensive equipment for assessing pasture? The group is validating a standardised photography method to gauge pasture condition, using indices already published in the literature — if validated, the next step is registering it as a software product.
- Extension Agroecological poultry at a juvenile detention centre — renewal Raising poultry without industrial inputs, inside a juvenile detention centre — the group keeps a close eye on the agroecological management set up last year.
- Extension Stingless-bee keeping at a juvenile detention centre Stingless bees, honey production and environmental education at the same juvenile detention centre as the poultry project — a new extension front that started in August.
- Extension Agronomy training and the rural job market — a skills diagnosis and extension actions for agricultural development What's missing for Agronomy graduates to find their place in the rural job market? A skills diagnosis, paired with extension work to bring training closer to the sector's real demand.
- Extension and research Low-carbon forage Tropical legumes fix nitrogen from the air for free, and may also lower the herd's methane emissions — two good reasons for farmers to pay attention to them. The group takes that information to farmers and students, backed by a systematic review as the scientific base behind the guidance.
Reading the support labels. PROINPE and PAEx are UEMG's internal funding programmes. BIC is FAPEMIG's undergraduate research scholarship, awarded to the student — it is what sustains the two research fronts currently running.
